A 3D stealth game set in a village at night. Stay in the shadows, slip past samurai patrols, and collect the glowing scrolls the toad in your den wants.
Plays in any modern desktop browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari) with a keyboard. It's free, and your progress is saved in your browser.
The goal
Scrolls glow around the village. Walk over one to pick it up: the scrolls you're carrying are your score, and what you pay the toads with. They appear somewhere different every game, and a minute after you take one a new one appears in another random spot, so keep going for a high score.
Some scrolls are worth more. A silver scroll is worth 5, a golden scroll is worth 20, and a defeated boss drops a red blood scroll worth 100. Being defeated loses the scrolls you're carrying, but your best score is remembered.
Stealth
- Hide in bamboo groves, tall grass and ponds. Samurai can't see you there, unless one is chasing you and watches you go in.
- Stay out of lantern light. In the dark, samurai only notice you from half as far away. Put a lantern out with a kunai or your sword.
- Watch the cone on the ground in front of each samurai: it shows exactly what he can see.
- Strike from right behind a samurai who hasn't noticed you to take him down instantly and silently.
- Hide the bodies. A samurai who finds a fallen comrade raises the alarm, so drag bodies into bamboo, grass or a pond.
The toads' shops
The toad in your den trades scrolls for upgrades: more health, stamina and chakra, more dashes in a row, kunai and smoke bombs. A second toad, hidden deep in the bamboo forest in the far corner of the map, makes your health, stamina and chakra come back faster. Getting to him is the hard part.
Bosses and jutsu
Giant boss samurai patrol the roads, and a shogun arrives later in the game. Along with your sword, kunai and shuriken, you can use jutsu powered by chakra: fire style, lightning style, Lightning Dragon and Shinra Tensei. Defeat your first general to learn Amaterasu.
Your progress is saved after you defeat your first general and again after your first shogun, so being defeated after that sends you back to your save instead of the very start.
